Anthropic's Record-Breaking Growth Sparks IPO Filing
Co-founder Daniela Amodei shrugs off concerns about AI's returns, emphasizing the need for capital to fuel the company's rapid expansion.
Private investors have been clamoring for a piece of Anthropic, with the company's $65 billion fundraise at a $965 billion valuation drawing significant interest. The AI model maker has revealed plans to file confidentially for an IPO, citing the need for capital to support its breakneck growth.
Anthropic has been growing at an astonishing pace, with annualized revenue crossing $47 billion in May – a significant increase from around $9 billion at the end of 2025. However, concerns about AI's returns are starting to surface, with companies like Uber questioning the productivity of their AI spending. Amodei remains optimistic, believing that businesses are still in the early stages of figuring out how to deploy AI effectively.
“The use cases today, I expect will continue to be the primary driver of efficiency or creativity, whether that's coding, financial services, legal, [or] health care,” she said. “But as the business community gets more familiar with the tools, we're all going to learn together.”
Amodei also addressed Anthropic's decision not to build its own data centers, instead opting to partner with rivals like xAI for compute capacity. The company's deal with xAI, later disclosed in SpaceX's S-1 filing, is set to cost Anthropic $1.25 billion per month.
