Deezer Confronts the AI Music Reality
More than half of daily music uploads on Deezer are now AI-generated, prompting the company to take action to protect artists and songwriters.
Deezer has been tracking AI-generated music uploads since last year, and the numbers have consistently increased. As of June 2026, the platform saw a monthly average of 90,000 AI tracks uploaded per day. This represents a significant shift in the music landscape, with AI-generated tracks now making up over 50% of daily uploads.
The rise of AI-generated music has created challenges for streaming services, with some platforms deciding to take stricter measures. Deezer's latest move involves removing AI-generated tracks that haven't been streamed in the past six months or are involved in fraudulent streams to drive up revenue.
“Deezer has been at the forefront of fighting fraud and reducing payment dilution related to AI music for almost two years. Now that half of all daily uploads are AI-generated tracks, we are taking additional steps to safeguard the rights of artists and songwriters, while maintaining focus on music that fans actually love," said Deezer CEO Alexis Lanternier.
Deezer first released statistics on AI music uploads in January 2025, when the daily upload volume was around 10,000 tracks or 10% of daily uploads. The number grew to 20,000 tracks, or 18% of daily uploads, in April 2025, followed by 30,000 tracks, representing 28% of daily uploads in September 2025, and 50,000 daily uploads, or 34% of daily uploads, in November 2025.
This year, the figure climbed to 60,000 tracks, or 39% of daily uploads, in January 2026, and reached 75,000 tracks, or 44% of daily uploads, as of April 2026.
Deezer has been labeling AI music on its platform since last year and has developed detection technology that can identify tracks generated with models from Suno and Udio, AI-music startups embroiled in copyright lawsuits. The company made its detection technology available to other platforms earlier this year, but it's unclear if any major platforms are using the tool just yet.
Last month, Deezer released a tool that can sift through Apple Music and Spotify playlists for AI-generated tracks. This move highlights the company's efforts to address the AI music surge and protect the rights of creators.
As the music industry continues to grapple with the implications of AI-generated music, Deezer's actions serve as a reminder of the need for streaming services to balance the interests of artists, songwriters, and fans amidst the rapidly changing music landscape.
