Google's Latest Move: A Screenless Fitbit
The tech giant has unveiled the Fitbit Air, a wearable designed for everyday use.
Google says the device is aimed at people who find wearable devices to be too bulky, complicated, or expensive. The Fitbit Air is described as "simple, affordable and comfortable enough to wear 24/7."
Key Features
- 24/7 heart rate monitoring
- Heart rhythm monitoring with A-fib (atrial fibrillation) alerts
- Blood oxygen level
- Resting heart rate
- Heart rate variability
- Sleep stages and duration
- Automatic tracking of common activities and workouts
Design and Compatibility
The device is noticeably smaller than its predecessors, weighing 12 grams with the band and 5.2 grams without. It pairs with the Pixel Watch, allowing users to switch between devices for a more comfortable experience. The Fitbit Air has up to a week of battery life and fast charging can deliver a full day of power in just five minutes.
Availability and Pricing
The Fitbit Air is available for preorder now and will go on sale May 26 for $100. It comes with three band types: a "Performance Loop Band" made from recycled materials, a waterproof "Active Band," and a discreet "Elevated Modern Band."
Additional Features
The Fitbit Air is just one of several new products announced by Google. The company has also unveiled Google Health Coach, an all-in-one fitness trainer, sleep coach, and health and wellness advisor. This feature is available for Google Health Premium subscribers.
