Instagram's Fresh Wordmark: A New Look for the Social Media Giant
A Decade of Evolution: Instagram's New Wordmark
Instagram has finally bid adieu to its decade-old wordmark, introducing a fresh, modern design that spells out the company's name in a sharper, more contemporary font. The new logo, announced by Instagram head Adam Mosseri on both Instagram and Threads, is an attempt to give the classic logo a much-needed update, while still maintaining the essence of the original.
The change was long overdue, as the older version of the logo felt dated, and the company wanted to give it a modern twist. Adam Mosseri described the new logo as "sharper and more modern" in his announcement.
A Fresh Take on Cursive Writing
The new wordmark's font recalls cursive writing, with old-fashioned curves adding a touch of elegance to the "s," "r," and "g" letters. This design choice, however, may not resonate with the younger generations, who are no longer taught to write in cursive. The curves on the "s" and "r" letters have been likened to a sail on a little boat, which may take some getting used to.

The last time Instagram updated its design was in 2016, when the company moved away from the classic brown camera with the rainbow stripe to the colorful pink gradient that remains the icon today.

Meta hasn't yet responded to a request for further comment about the redesign or whether other design changes will come to Instagram in the near future.

The new logo has received mixed reactions from users, with some praising the freshness of the design and others joking that it looks like "Instagzam" due to the shape of the font used for the "r" letter.
