Meta's New Meta Account System: A Simplified Cross-App Experience
Meta's sprawling ecosystem has become increasingly unwieldy, with users juggling multiple accounts and log-ins across various apps. To address this issue, Meta has introduced an improved Meta Account system, designed to streamline user experience and enhance security.
Key Features of the New Meta Account System
-
Centralized Management: Settings that apply across Meta apps and devices can now be managed in one place through the Meta Account.
-
Password and 2FA Management: Users can set up a single password that applies to all Meta accounts, protected with Passkeys for added security. The Meta Account will also provide security recommendations to help users stay up-to-date with multi-factor authentication and login alerts across devices.
-
Parental Controls: The Meta Account will enable parents to more easily supervise their teens' behavior across apps, eliminating the need to switch between various apps.
-
Account Flexibility: Users can choose to link or unlink their accounts from the Meta Account at any time, allowing for greater control over their account settings.
"Settings that are specific to an app remain managed independently, so you can also tailor your experiences for each," Meta explained. "For example, who can see your Facebook posts is a Facebook setting, and whether someone can tag you in a photo on Instagram is an Instagram setting."
The Meta Account setup doesn't force users into linking all of their accounts, and users can choose to add or remove accounts from the overall Meta Account at any time.
Enhancing User Experience and Security
Meta's revamped Meta Account system is set to roll out over the next year, aiming to simplify user experience and enhance security across the Meta ecosystem.
"We're committed to making it easier for people to manage their accounts and settings across our apps and devices," Meta said in a statement.
