Netflix Introduces Netflix Playground, a New App for Kids' Games
The streaming giant has launched a standalone app for kids' games, offering an ever-growing library of ad-free titles.
Netflix Playground is now available in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Australia, the Philippines, and New Zealand, with a global rollout scheduled for April 28.
The app is designed for children ages eight and under and can be accessed offline without a mobile or Wi-Fi connection. This makes it a great companion for long trips or outings.
Netflix Playground currently features titles based on popular kids' shows, including Playtime With Peppa Pig, Sesame Street, and Let's Color. Other games include Storybots, Bad Dinosaurs, and more.
According to John Derderian, Netflix Vice President of Animation Series + Kids & Family TV, the app is part of the company's efforts to create a seamless destination for discovery, learning, and play.
In a press release, Derderian stated, >"We’re building a world where kids can not only watch their favorite stories, they can step inside them and interact with their favorite characters.>
Netflix first launched games in 2021 but has since dialed back its ambitions after its titles failed to gain traction. The company has also shut down several video game studios.
The streaming giant has expressed plans to prioritize cloud gaming but notes that it's still in the early stages of these plans.
