TechCrunch Slams Polymarket Over Betting on US Service Members
Congressman Seth Moulton has come down hard on prediction market platform Polymarket after users were allowed to bet on the date of rescue for US service members shot down over Iran.
In a scathing social media post, Moulton described Polymarket as a 'dystopian death market' and criticized the platform for allowing people to gamble on the lives of others. He also noted that Donald Trump Jr. is an investor in Polymarket.
Polymarket responded by taking down the market 'immediately' for not meeting the company's integrity standards. The company said it was investigating how the market slipped through its internal safeguards.
This is not the first time Polymarket has faced criticism for its handling of sensitive topics. The platform previously saw hundreds of millions of dollars traded on contracts tied to the bombing of Iran by the US and Israel.
