Speculation Ends as Uber Agrees to Acquire Delivery Hero
Uber has finally put an end to weeks of speculation by agreeing to acquire Delivery Hero, a move that will catapult the ride-hailing giant to new heights in nearly 100 markets across Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, and Asia.
The $14.8 billion all-stock acquisition is contingent upon Uber reaching a minimum acceptance threshold of 50% plus one share of Delivery Hero's outstanding share capital. Prosus, another major shareholder, has agreed to sell its 17% stake, paving the way for the deal to be finalized.
In a separate agreement, Delivery Hero will sell its business in 14 markets where Uber Eats is already operating to New York-based investment firm SSW Partners for $1.6 billion.
This acquisition will make Uber's delivery platform one of the largest in the world, surpassing competitors such as DoorDash and Just Eat. The move is expected to face regulatory scrutiny, but Uber is confident that the deal will create significant long-term value for its customers and shareholders.
"Together, we’ll nearly double the number of markets where we offer both mobility and delivery services, scaling a proven platform that we believe will create significant long-term value for our customers and shareholders," Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said in a statement.
The acquisition is a strategic move by Uber to expand its reach and solidify its position in the market. With this deal, Uber will be able to offer its services in nearly 100 markets, giving it a significant advantage over its competitors.
- Some of the key benefits of this acquisition include:
- Increased market reach and expansion
- Enhanced delivery services
- Improved competition with DoorDash and Just Eat
- Creation of significant long-term value for customers and shareholders
The acquisition is expected to close soon, pending regulatory approval. Once finalized, it will be a game-changer for the ride-hailing giant, catapulting it to new heights in the market.
