Uber's Autonomous Empire: A Comprehensive List of Partnerships and Investments
Uber has been quietly building an autonomous vehicle empire, with over 30 partnerships and investments worldwide. From Aurora to Waymo, the ride-hailing giant has been expanding its reach, creating a comprehensive network of self-driving cars and trucks.
Uber's Autonomous Journey: A Reset and a New Beginning
Uber's autonomous vehicle program was once a major focus, but after a fatal crash in 2018, the company underwent a reset. In 2020, Uber sold its autonomous vehicle division to Aurora and walked away from its moonshots, focusing on its core businesses of ride-hailing and delivery using human-driven vehicles. However, just two years later, Uber crept back in and started making AV deals, with the deal flow picking up in earnest in 2024.
