X Simplifies Content Organization with New History Tab
X has introduced a History tab that consolidates bookmarks, likes, videos, and articles in one place, making it easier to access saved content.
X's head of product, Nikitia Bier, notes that this feature is a better way to keep track of favorite content and return to unfinished reading or watching later.
The History tab is initially available on iOS, and it separates saved content into four distinct sections: bookmarks, likes, videos, and articles. While bookmarks and likes are intentional saves, the videos and articles tabs will be populated based on what users watch or read on X.
The addition of the History tab makes X feel more like a web browser, where users can revisit previously viewed content without explicitly saving it. This feature also consolidates previously scattered content features, with bookmarks housed in the main menu and likes buried away in the user profile.
The new History tab could encourage greater use of X's long-form article format, which allows businesses and creators to share updates beyond the standard 280-character post length. Users can track articles as they scroll, creating a personalized news reader within the app.
The update comes as web publishers face a decline in referral traffic from platforms like Facebook and Google, driven by shifting algorithms and AI-powered experiences. X sees this shift as an opportunity to attract more publishers and creators to write directly on its platform, where distribution and discovery are built in.
This move further solidifies X's position as a platform for long-form content, enabling users to revisit and engage with saved content in a more streamlined manner.
