Meta AI App Sees Explosive Growth on App Store
Meta's AI Model Muse Spark Drives App's Success
Meta AI's mobile app has experienced a significant surge in popularity following the launch of its new AI model, Muse Spark, on Wednesday. According to data from market intelligence provider Appfigures, the app has jumped from No. 57 to No. 5 on the US App Store, indicating a substantial increase in consumer demand.
Meta's AI model, Muse Spark, is a significant upgrade over its earlier Llama 4 models and has been designed to perform well on various tasks, including helping users learn about their health and reasoning through complex questions in areas like science and math. Additionally, the model can aid in visual coding and launch multiple subagents to handle users' questions.
- The app has been installed a total of 60.5 million times worldwide across both the App Store and Google Play.
- 25 million downloads have occurred this year alone, representing a 138% increase in downloads over the first five months of the app's availability.
- India is now Meta AI's top market by downloads, followed by the US, Brazil, Pakistan, and Mexico.
Meta's efforts to catch up to rivals like OpenAI and Anthropic have already cost the company billions in recruiting AI talent, in addition to its $14.3 billion investment in Scale AI. The new AI model is expected to roll out to other platforms, including WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, and Meta's AI glasses, in the coming weeks.
"Still growing," said Alexandr Wang, the head of Meta's Superintelligence Labs, in a post on X, highlighting the app's continued popularity.
The app's success has been met with skepticism, however, as it still lags behind other top model makers, including OpenAI's ChatGPT, Anthropic's Claude, and Google's Gemini. Nevertheless, the rapid growth of Meta AI's app is a testament to the increasing demand for AI-powered apps and Meta's efforts to stay competitive in the market.
